Curriculum Vitae (CV) vs Resume

What is the difference? As a nurse practitioner working at the bedside, I always labeled my "resume" as "CV", because that is what is requested. Now, I realize that what I was submitting was actually more of a resume.

Resume

Resume comes from the French of "summary". This is typically a concise 1 page (can be front and back) summary of your education and work experience. After 1 year of industry experience, lead with work experience and place education section at the or near the end, depending upon qualifications. I have never moved my educational background since I have adjusted my resume to a CV. Read on to see why..

CV

Curriculum Vitae in latin is "course of life".

I am applying for adjunct faculty with hopes to become full-time at some point. Now that I have some teaching history, I adjusted my resume to a CV. Why did I do this? Because a CV emphasizes academic accomplishments including teaching experience, published research, fellowships, and grants. CVs always begin with educational background.

I will enclose my 2 most recents as examples.

My CV:

In my resume, I tried to keep it to 2 pages that way it prints as 1 page, front and back. As you can see in the CV example, I have one added page and I listed the sections differently as I am using this to apply to faculty positions. And I added a picture as another personal touch! I like to keep it clean yet, fresh. I kept the color scheme simple and the layout simple to accomplish this.
